DESCRIPTION
Precast Box Culverts continue to grow in popularity as a simple and effective solution for short-span bridge replacements, trunkline drainage systems, and a number of other applications. A successful box culvert project depends largely on proper installation requirements and procedures. This 1-hr webinar will overview open-cut box culvert installation aiming to address best practices for contractors and field inspectors as well as proper specifications for engineers. Topics to be addressed include, site preparation, handling, joints, and backfill.

David started in the concrete pipe industry in June 1996 with Gifford-Hill doing technical marketing. He has witnessed the transition of Gifford-Hill to Hanson, Hanson to Forterra, and recently, Forterra to Rinker. He spent time as the Austin Sales Manager before moving back into technical marketing. He has been active in the American Society of Civil Engineers and was recently awarded a Lifetime Service Award by the Texas Section in 2023. He was President of the Austin Branch in 2000-2001 and again in 2004-2005. He spent almost 20 years on the Austin Contractors and Engineers Association Board and was their board president in 2015-2016. David earned the Master Precaster certification from the National Precast Association in 2022. He is active in promoting the concrete pipe industry within the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-Of-Way Association and oversaw a major update to the concrete pipe AREMA guidelines. David graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Civil Engineering.

Dena Silva, MS is based in Fort Worth, Texas and joined the ACPA in 2024. Dena earned a bachelor's in Organizational Communication and a master's degree in Learning Technologies.
As the Director of Education, Dena works with key stakeholders to design the education strategy and implement programs to meet the needs of members and industry partners. She is primarily responsible for Pipe School, P3, workshops and webinars as well as oversight of the ACPA learning center.
